The New York Hall of Science (or NYSCI as it’s affectionately called) originally opened in 1964 as part of the World’s Fair. It was one of the first science museums in the country and was also one of the only pavilions that remained open after the fair. In 1979, NYSCI shut its doors for their first major renovation. Renovations updated the museum and brought more of a focus to how science plays a role in everyday life, with many hands on exhibits. The museum is constantly updated to reflect the times, and it remains a big favorite trip site for schools and day camps. Also, last year NYSCI’s grounds were the host of the first annual Maker Faire in NYC, a major DIY event that empowers people that they can create anything and that science is very cool. Maker Faire is coming again this year on September 17 & 18.
